Adrián González | The SmartForce Group, Inc.

Adrián González is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of The SmartForce Group, Inc. – a global training and development firm specializing in helping client organizations achieve superior performance through education.

Adrián has over thirty years of experience in financial and economic consulting and performance training. As an economist and a former structural engineer, Adrián’s talent lies in turning complex and elaborate theories into simple and understandable concepts that everyone can embrace. The SmartForce Group’s creative and high-energy programs have educated thousands of employees across a broad spectrum of industries. They have had a significant impact on the employees and the organizational performance of their companies.

Adrián is fluent in English and Spanish and has personally facilitated sessions around the globe in over 50 different countries across six different Continents for audiences ranging from top executives to all organizational levels. Adrián has also coached many top Fortune 500 executives in the art and science of crafting and delivering compelling, memorable presentations.

Adrián is an accomplished classical pianist who has occasionally performed recitals for various non-profit organizations.

Dustin Stoker | Husky Terminal

Dustin Stoker, President, joined Husky Terminal in January 2021. Stoker brings more than 23 years of experience in both domestic and international terminal leadership. Prior to joining Husky Mr. Stoker served as Chief Operations Officer of the Northwest Seaport Alliance/ Port of Tacoma from 2012 – 2020. Earlier in his career he served as the Director of Deltaport in Vancouver, B.C. with Global Container Terminal (GCT), Chief Operations Officer at Abu Dhabi Terminals, General Manager of the Container Terminal at the Port of Salalah and in management positions with APM Terminals in the Netherlands, Los Angeles and Tacoma.

Stoker holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from the University of Washington. He is a native of the Pacific Northwest and resides in the South Sound with his wife and three boys.

Paul Grimaldi | Lynden Transport

Paul Grimaldi is the President of Lynden Transport. He has been with Lynden Transport since 2003, and in the transportation industry for over 38 years. Paul’s experience in operations and transportation management have provided an increased focus on process consistency and efficiency during his time at Lynden Transport.

Paul graduated from Michigan State University with a business degree in Materials and Logistics Management with concentrations on Transportation, Distribution, Operations Management and Purchasing Management. He worked in locations throughout the Midwest and East Coast before moving to the Pacific Northwest in 1998. Paul is married to Melissa Grimaldi, has one daughter, and recently became a proud grandfather.

John Wolfe | The Northwest Seaport Alliance

John Wolfe is chief executive officer of The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA). He sets the organization’s vision and strategy, and guides the NWSA’s unique customer-focused culture.

Wolfe also served as the CEO of the Port of Tacoma, a position he held from 2010 to 2019. Before being named CEO, he had served as the Port of Tacoma’s deputy executive director since June 2005.

Prior to joining the Port of Tacoma, Wolfe served for two years as the executive director of the Port of Olympia, and before that as Olympia’s director of operations and marine terminal general manager.

Wolfe also spent 10 years with Maersk Sealand/APM Terminals in Tacoma, most recently as the terminal’s operations manager.

He is on the boards of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), Executive Council for a Greater Tacoma, Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce, the Washington State Fair Board, Federal Maritime Commission’s Export Innovation Team and Maritime Innovation Advisory Council for the Department of Commerce. Wolfe is also an executive board member of the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County. Wolfe earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Pacific Lutheran University.

November 14th, 2022 Meeting: John Lauer

John Lauer | Matson

John P. Lauer was named executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Matson in February 2022 and has served as an officer of Matson since March 2012. In this post, Lauer is responsible for sales, marketing, customer service, pricing, government services, and the China office network for the ocean transportation division of Matson. Lauer has more than 35 years of experience in the maritime industry.

He started his career with Matson in 2007 as director, transpacific services, and had a leadership role in establishing the company as the premier service-oriented carrier in the Pacific. Lauer was promoted to vice president, transpacific services, in 2012 and appointed to senior vice president, ocean services, in 2015.

Prior to Matson, Lauer worked for APL for 19 years in a succession of positions with increasing responsibility in Chicago, Houston, Denver, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and New Jersey. Some of his key roles at APL included vice president, eastern region; managing director, western region sales; and director of sales, Hong Kong/S PRC.

Lauer has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Notre Dame and is a Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program graduate.

Brian Howver brings 25+ years of progressive experience across Supply Chain, Logistics, Warehousing/Distribution and Fulfillment Operations. He offers a proven track record of success in developing and executing high impact, value-driven growth and transformational initiatives within diverse organizational structures, on a global scale.

Brian brings advanced knowledge of Supply Chain optimization strategies, operational and cost drivers, distribution and deployment planning technologies, warehouse processes, and 3PL logistics dynamics. In addition, he has an entrepreneurial spirit and the innovation to see beyond the current to identify new opportunities that create greater business value.

Brian’s career spans COO, President, Senior Vice President, and other Leadership roles at companies including: PCC Logistics; The Triangle Group; Toll Global Logistics; Pacer International, Inc; SalSon, Inc.; NFI Industries; and Matson Global Distribution Services. Brian’s scope of responsibility encompasses all aspects of daily Finance, IT, Operations, P&L, Business Development, Supply Chain Management, Fulfillment, Regulatory Compliance, Strategic Planning and Execution for organizations generating well over $250M in revenues. He has built and managed great teams with over 20+ direct reports, 1,500 associates and 1,000 drivers at any time.

Brian holds a Master of Science in Intermodal Transportation degree from the University of Denver.

Ivan Harrell | Tacoma Community College

Ivan L. Harrell II., Ph.D., serves as the President of Tacoma Community College (TCC) in Washington state. Having a passion for community college education, Dr. Harrell strives every day to lead a group of professionals in providing the best environment, programs and services students need to complete their academic and career goals.

Prior to TCC, Dr. Harrell most recently served as the Executive Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Before Georgia Piedmont, he served as the Vice President of Success at Lone Star College, Dean of Student Services at Anne Arundel Community College, Coordinator for Student Affairs at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, and Assistant to the Vice President at Tallahassee Community College.

Dr. Harrell has written or co-written a number of scholarly articles and book chapters. He has also served as a presenter at numerous local, regional and national conferences and seminars. He is most proud of his work around improving the success of students of color, particularly Black men, first-generation college students, as well as students who come from traditionally marginalized backgrounds.

Dr. Harrell completed his doctor of philosophy degree (Ph.D.) at Florida State University, where he defended his award-winning dissertation, titled, “Using Student Characteristics to Predict the Persistence of Community College Students Enrolled in Online Courses.” He holds a master’s degree (M.Ed.) from Vanderbilt University, and a bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from Wittenberg University.

A native of Oberlin, Ohio, Dr. Harrell was a first-generation student who began his career in community colleges at Tallahassee Community College. Inspired by the diverse, intelligent and hard-working students he met at Tallahassee, Dr. Harrell decided to dedicate his career to advance the community college mission. His goal, as a higher education leader, is to support as many community college students possible to achieve their academic and career goals.
